→ The Supreme Court upheld the government’s decision to link
Aadhaar with the permanent account number (PAN) for the filing of income tax
returns, but ruled that non-compliance with the law will carry no retrospective
criminal consequences.
SATH Program → NITI
Aayog has launched SATH, a program providing ‘Sustainable Action for
Transforming Human capital’ SATH aims to identify and build three future ‘role
model’ states for health systems.
Selfie With Daughter
→ President Pranab Mukherjee today launched the 'Selfie with
Daughter' mobile application, aimed at raising awareness about female foeticide
and sex selection.
Daily Revision of Petrol and Diesel Rates
→ State-run fuel retailers will revise petrol and diesel
prices daily from June 16, Daily revision of petrol and diesel prices has
already been implemented on a pilot basis in five cities - Udaipur, Jamshedpur,
Visakhapatnam, Chandigarh, and Puducherry - from May 1.
War Memorial
→ A war memorial at Thembang village in Kameng district of
Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated which is dedicated to the men of 5 Guards,
who fought during the Indo-China war in Thembang village on november 16 and 17,
1962.
Underwater Metro of India
→ Kolkata will soon have an underwater Metro which will pass
through tunnels several feet under the Hooghly.
Skill for Life, Save a Life
→ J P Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare
launched the ‘Skill for Life, Save a Life’ initiative which aims to upscale the
quantity and quality of trained professionals in the healthcare system.
Kambala Legalised
→ The Union Ministry of Law and Justice has cleared the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals (Karnataka Amendment) Bill 2017, legalising kambala — the
traditional slush track buffalo race
Mughalsarai railway to Be Renamed
→ The Yogi Adityanath cabinet in Uttar Pradesh decided to
rename Mughalsarai railway station near Varanasi after RSS ideologue Pandit
Deendayal Upadhyaya.
HEERA to Replace UGC
→ The Narendra Modi led-government is all set to scrap the
University Grants Commission and the All India Council for Technical Education
and replace them with one higher education regulator, tentatively being called
the Higher Education Empowerment Regulation Agency or Heera.

First Pest Day
→ The first World Pest Day was today launched in the Chinese
capital with an aim to eventually reduce and eliminate pest-borne diseases.
US, China and India Nations for FDI → The
US, China and India are considered to be the most prospective destinations for
foreign direct investment
(FDI), predicted the United Nations Conference on Trade and
Development (UNCTAD) in its annual report on investment.
India Complained Against US
→ India has complained to the World Trade Organization (WTO)
that the US has failed to drop anti-subsidy duties on certain Indian steel
products after losing an earlier ruling.
European Union Film Festival
→ The 22nd European Union Film Festival (EUFF) premiered at
Siri Fort auditorium with the screening of Estonian film Cherry Tobacco.
3.5 Million Euros Grant to India
→ Aiming to reduce emissions and promote sustainability to
help India’s smart city programme, France and the European Union extended a
grant of 3.5 million euros under the ‘Moblise Your City’ (MYC) initiative.
Three Indian cities -- Nagpur, Kochi and Ahmedabad -- will get the grant as
part of the EU’s commitment under the Paris Climate agreement, French

India Provide LIne of Credit to Sri Lanka
→ India signed an agreement with Sri Lanka to provide USD 318
million as line of credit to develop the island nation’s railway sector, India
has provided four lines of credit to Sri Lanka, amounting to USD 966 million.

First Ocean Conference
→ The United Nations held its first-ever Ocean Conference to
renew member nations' commitment to combatting rising sea levels, pollution,

WHO's New Drugs Protocol →
World Health Organization (WHO) has divided the drugs into three categories —
access, watch and reserve. Commonly used antibiotics will be under the ‘access’
category; the second line of antibiotics, slightly more potent, have been
categorised under “watch” and potent drugs to be used only as a “last resort”
fall under the ‘reserve’ category.
Two Sikhs Won Britain Elections
→ Preet Kaur Gill – the first Sikh woman MP – and Tanmanjeet
Singh Dhesi – the first turban-wearing Sikhh has been elected as MPs in Britain
elections.
Theresa May’s gamble has failed; the Conservatives have lost
their parliamentary majority and have turned to the DUP to support them in
forming a new government.

→ In a first, three Indian male shuttlers - Ajay Jayaram,
Kidambi Srikanth and B Sai Praneeth - were in the top 15 of the latest
Badminton World Federation Rankings released as they occupied the 13th, 14th
and 15th spot respectively.

→Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna and Canadian partner Gabriela
Dabrowski produced a fighting performance to beat their German-Colombian
opponents Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah in the final to clinch their
maiden French Open mixed doubles title in Paris
Oldest French Open Finalist
→ Stan Wawrinka became the oldest French Open finalist in 44
years with an epic 6-7 (6/8), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7/3), 6-1 win over world number
one Andy Murray.
French Open Women’s Singles Crown
→ Unseeded Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia beat Simona Halep 4-6,
6-4, 6-3 at Roland Garros to win the 2017 French Open Women’s Singles crown and
her first ever Grand Slam title.
New Events for Tokyo Olypics
→ The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved new
events for the 2020 Tokyo Games. New Events are mixed team event for judo,
mixed doubles table tennis and three-on-three basketball
Asian Junior Tennis Championships
→ Dhanya Shah and Sanmay Gandhi clinched the Under-14 doubles
title of the Asian Junior Tennis Championships title
French Open Title 2017
→ Rafael Nadal dominated 32-year-old Stan Wawrinka to win the
French Open for the first time since 2014. He’s the first player—man or
woman—in tennis’s Open era to win the same major title 10 times.
World Individual Chess Championship
→ Shashikant Kutwal, a railway employee with Pune Division,
has won the gold medal at the 17th World Individual Chess Championship for
differently-abled, held in Slovakia
ITF Men's Futures Tennis Title
→ Indian player Ramkumar Ramanathan lifted the $15,000 ITF
men's Futures tennis title after outplaying Raymond Sarmiento of the USA in
straight sets.
Forbes’s 100 highest-paid Athletes
→ Indian cricket captain, Virat Kohli has made it to the
Forbes’s latest list of the world’s 100 highest-paid athletes.
→ Ranked at No 89, Kohli is the only Indian on the list, which
is topped by football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kalinga Literary Awards
→ Popular writer Anand Neelakantan, Odia poet Haraprasad Das
and author Paramita Satpathy were announced winners of the Kalinga Literary
Awards. The Kalinga International Literary Award, →
Kalinga Literary Youth Award and Kalinga Karubaki Award will be conferred upon
Neelakantan, Das and Satpathy respectively. The theme of this year's award
ceremony is ‘Literature for Peace and Harmony’.

Bengaluru FC Awarded
→ Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) general secretary Dato

→ Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda was
conferred the WHO Director-General’s Special Recognition Award for global

→ Nikhiya Shamsher, a student at Greenwood High International

New Charges by HDFC
→ HDFC Bank has introduced charges on UPI. Transactions from
Rs 1 to Rs 25,000 will be charged Rs 3 plus taxes while those above Rs 25,000
to Rs 1 lakh will be charged Rs 5. As against this the NEFT charges are Rs 2.5
for transactions up to Rs 10,000 and Rs 5 for transactions above Rs 10,000.
Retail Mart of IOB
→ Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), the Lead Bank for
Thiruvananthapuram district, has launched the Retail Mart, a retail lending
concept, in Kerala's capital city.
Biodegradable Gift Cards
→ Axis Bank Ltd announced biodegradable prepaid gift cards.
The maximum validity of pre-paid gift instruments is three years.
Canara Bank and the New India Tied up
→ Canara Bank and the New India Assurance Company have entered
into a corporate agency arrangement for distribution of insurance products.

Sahithi Pingali Planet
→ A minor planet somewhere in the Milky Way galaxy, many light
years from Earth, will be called Sahithi Pingali. The planet is named after a
16-year-old schoolgirl from Bengaluru, whose concern and work towards the
city's polluted lakes have made her not only a star but a planet.
Flying Squirrel Discovered
→ Scientists have discovered a new species of flying squirrel,
Known as Humboldt's flying squirrel, in North America that had been hiding in
plain sight for hundreds of years.
TCS launched BanCS
→ Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced the launch of
the BaNCS app development kit that will help financial institutions develop
their own apps and deploy it across devices.
First Hybrid Aerobot
→ The world's first hybrid "aeroboat" capable of
travelling on land, water, snow and sand that has been built by an Indo-Russian
joint venture was unveiled in Moscow
Hottest Planet Discovered
→ Scientists have discovered the hottest known planet located
650 light years from Earth, The Jupiter-like planet orbits a massive star
KELT-9 every day and a half, researchers said.
